March 29, 2004 Raffa was a perfect 3-0 in singles play, in a 2-1 weekend for the Statesmen. He defeated Rochesters Partha Bhattacharya, the 11th-ranked singles player in the Northeast, 7-6 (3), 6-3 on Friday at No. 3. The following day, he moved up to No. 2 where he posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Clarksons Anthony Cerchio. Raffa closed out the three-matches in three-days swing with a 6-1, 6-1 win over St. Lawrences Michael Wiltshire at No. 3. In doubles action, Raffa was 2-1 at No. 2, dropping his only match to nationally ranked Rochester (No. 23). For the year, Raffa is undefeated at third singles (9-0) and boasts an 11-3 mark overall. In doubles play, hes 10-5. Silver was 3-0 this week in singles play, improving his team best win streak to four matches. Against Rochester, he won at No. 4 in straight sets over Josh Bruce-Black 7-6 (5), 7-6 (1). The next day, Silver moved up to No. 3 and topped Clarksons Justyn Kinsley 6-0, 6-0, and closed out the weekend with another straight set win, 6-0, 7-6 (2) over St. Lawrences Ian Graddock at No. 4. In doubles play, Silver was 1-2, losing at No. 3 to Rochester and St. Lawrence, while picking up a win at No. 2 against Clarkson. For the year, he sports a 10-4 singles mark and a 6-8 record in doubles action. Ranked 15th in the Northeast Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, Hobart (9-2) dropped a tight 4-3 decision to Rochester on Friday, before taking to the road for wins over Clarkson (7-0) on Saturday, and St. Lawrence (4-3) on Sunday. The Statesmen return to action at 4 p.m., on March 31, when the Nazareth Golden Flyers visit Geneva. |
