September 14, 2003 ROCHESTER, N.Y.--Making it look almost too easy, the Hobart tennis team captured its second Flower City Tournament championship in the past three years with a 7-0 decision against St. Lawrence University today at Nazareth College. With three team victories in two days, the Statesmen lost just two singles matches (out of 18) and two doubles matches (out of 9). Against the Saints, Hobart swept all six singles matches on the strength of junior Peter Piné (Princeton/Princeton, N.J.), senior Trevor McAndrew (Northfield Mount Hermon/Westerly, R.I.), sophomore Adam Raffa (Concord-Carlisle/Concord, Mass.), first-year Matt Silver (Weston/Weston, Conn.), sophomore Matt Jacobus (South Burlington/South Burlington, Vt.), and first-year Michael Klein (Horace Greeley/Chappaqua, N.Y.). The Statesmen also won two of three doubles matches. Hobart also won the 2001 Flower City Championship, and advanced to the title match of last year's tournament. The Statesmen continue their fall schedule on Sept. 20-21, in the Rochester Invitational. |
