13th at nationals after 2nd day

HONOLULU--Following two days of races, William Smith is in 13th place
out of 18 teams at the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Women's
National Championships, hosted by the University of Hawaii. The Herons
have 265 points and trail first place Old Dominion University, 93 points,
with one day of sailing remaining.
Representing William Smith in the A Division are junior Sonya Smith (Falmouth/Falmouth,Mass.),
senior Sarah Angell (Kent Place School/Far Hills, N.J.), and junior Sarah
Hawkins (Barrington/Barrington, R.I.). The Herons' top team has struggled,
finishing no higher than 11th (four times). William Smith is 14th among
A Division boats.
The Heron sailors have enjoyed more success in the B Division. Junior
Amanda Callahan (Notre Dame Academy/Canton, Mass.), junior Jen Rosthal
(Stratford/Houston, Texas), and first-year Kate Kana (Gunston School/Easton,
Md.) have finished in the top-10 eight times, including a victory in the
final race of the day yesterday. William Smith is seventh among B Division
boats.
The event is being run out of the Honolulu Community College Marine Education
and Training Center. Six more races will be run on Friday, the final day
of racing.
