Sailors take 3rd at Thompson Trophy

April 25, 2005

NEW LONDON, Conn.—Four Hobart and William Smith sailors teamed up this past weekend to earn a third place finish of 18 teams at the Thompson Trophy at Connecticut College. USC won the regatta, while Yale took the runner-up spot.

Senior John Storck (St. Anthony’s/Huntington, N.Y.) and sophomore Mandi Markee (Torrey Pines/Santa Fe, Calif.) were among the top three boats in six of the 17 races, earning a win in their fourth outing for fourth place in the division.

In the B division, senior Wiley Wakeman (Groton School/Cohasset, Mass.) and first-year Bill Healy (Newark/Newark, N.Y.) completed the course among the top five boats five times, including victories in the third and 14th races.

Ranked third in the Sailing World College Rankings, HWS will compete for a spot in the ICSA/Gill Coed Dinghy Championships at the America Trophy at Navy. Hobart and William Smith were the runners-up at the 2004 America Trophy.
