HWS sailors compete at Admiral’s Cup and Moody Trophy

WASHINGTON/KINGSTON, R.I.—The Hobart and William sailing team competed at the Moody Trophy and Admiral’s Cup regattas this past weekend, finishing seventh and 10th, respectively. St. Mary’s took home the Moody Trophy title, while Yale captured the Admiral’s Cup.

At the Moody Trophy, it was senior Lee Sackett (Gilmour Academy/Mentor, Ohio) and junior Molly Lawson (Noble & Greenough School/Duxbury, Mass.) earning six top-five finishes in 15 races for sixth place in the A division.

Sophomore Brian Clancy (Boston College/Scituate, Mass.) and first-year Laura Golson (Marin Academy/Ross, Calif.) competed in the B division, capturing seven top-five finishes, including a victory in the third outing, edging MIT out for the eighth spot.

In action at Kings Point, senior John Storck (St. Anthony’s/Huntington, N.Y.) and sophomore Mandi Markee (Torrey Pines/Santa Fe, Calif.) raced to two top-four finishes in eight outings for ninth place of 20 teams in the A division.

Sophomore Trevor Moore (Woodstock Union/Pomfret, Vt.) and junior Augusta Nadler (Tabor Academy/Marion, Mass.) turned in an strong performance in the B division, finishing third and just five points out of first. The duo earned five top-five finishes in the weekend’s eight races.

First-year Jay Mills (Hotchkiss School/Greenport, N.Y.) rounded out the HWS crew, taking 15th in the C division.

Ranked third in the most recent Sailing World College Rankings, HWS will compete in the MAISA Women’s Dinghy Championships, the MAISA Open, and the Thompson Trophy on April 23-24.
