HWS takes fifth at Freshman Championship

ANNAPOLIS, Md.—The Hobart and William Smith Colleges sailing team turned in a solid performance over the weekend, earning fifth place of 16 teams at the Atlantic Coast Freshman Championship at the Naval Academy. Boston College took top honors with a low score of 173, while Dartmouth was the runner-up.

In A division racing, skipper Jay Mills (Hotchkiss School/Greenport, N.Y.) and crews Laura Golson (Marin Academy/Ross, Calif.) and Bill Healy (Newark/Newark, N.Y.) finished second in four of the 16 races to finish sixth with 130 points.

Skipper James Landi (Salisbury School/Salisbury, Md.) and crew Emily Golson (Marin Academy/Ross, Calif.) teamed up to garner third place in the B division with 107 points. Earning seven top-five finishes on the weekend, they edged out Kings Point by just two points for the third spot.

Ranked seventh in the most recent Sailing World College Rankings, HWS will compete in the Atlantic Coast Dinghy Championships on Nov. 13-14, at MIT.
