William Smith competes in MAISA Fall Championship

WASHINGTON—The William Smith College sailing team competed at the Mid-Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association Fall Women’s Dinghy Championship this past weekend, finishing seventh of 14 teams with 162 points. Navy captured the victory, while host Georgetown earned the runner-up spot.
In the A division senior skipper Emile Barkow (University Lake School/Nashotah, Wis.) and first-year crew Kate Wilson (Prout School/Hope Valley, R.I.) placed seventh with 91 points. The duo captured five top-five finishes in 12 races, including a weekend-best third place in the third and ninth races.
Teaming up in the B division were junior skipper Augusta Nadler (Tabor Academy/Marion, Mass.) and senior crew Kate May (Cranston East/Cranston, R.I.). Winning the weekend’s first race, Nadler and May earned five top-five places and never finished lower than 10th.
The Herons are ranked 15th in the latest Sailing World College Rankings. Harvard sits atop the poll.
