Markee tabbed RACA Female Athlete of the Week
May 4, 2005
GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith sophomore sailor Amanda Markee (Torrey Pines/Santa Fe, Calif.) was named the Rochester Area College Athletics (RACA) Co-Female Athlete of the Week on Monday. She helped the Hobart and William Smith Colleges sailing team to a first place finish in the America Trophy regatta, the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MAISA) coed dinghy championship.
Markee and senior skipper John Storck (St. Anthony’s/Huntington, N.Y.) guided HWS’s top boat to wins in two individual races and top-five finishes in 14 of 18 races. Among 18 colleges competing in the MAISA Championship, HWS placed second to Georgetown in the A Division and second to St. Mary’s in the B Division. The performance earned the Colleges the America Trophy and a spot in the Intercollegiate Sailing Association/Gill Coed Dinghy Championships, June 8-10, in Austin, Texas.
RACA is an association to recognize the outstanding achievements of student-athletes from the 10 Rochester area colleges and universities.
