HWS sailing captures Captain Prosser Trophy

April 10, 2006

GENEVA, N.Y.—The second-ranked Hobart and William Smith Colleges sailing team powered past seven other squads to capture the Captain Prosser Trophy, hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy, this past weekend. HWS posted an impressive 16-1 record in the round-robin format to qualify for the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association Team Race Championships, hosted by the College of Charleston, on May 28-30.

Skippers Brian Clancy, Trevor Moore, and Jay Mills and crews Zack Goldman, James Landi, Amanda Markee, Augusta Nadler, and Dan Thompson captured the Prosser Trophy, the second straight season the Colleges have won the regatta.

In the opening set, HWS exploded out of the gates, registering an unblemished 7-0 record, outracing powerhouse Georgetown University (6-1) for the top spot in the standings. The Colleges continued to apply the pressure in the second set, advancing to the championship round with a 6-1 mark. In the final four, HWS captured the title with a clean sweep of St. Mary’s (Md.), Georgetown, and Navy.

Also in action over the weekend, William Smith placed ninth out of 15 teams at the President’s Trophy, hosted by Boston University, while HWS recorded a 10th place showing at the Ted Ferrarone Team Race at Yale University.
