HWS sailing earns No. 1 ranking

GENEVA, N.Y.—Following a first place showing at the Admiral’s Cup Regatta, the Hobart and William Smith Colleges sailing team claimed the top spot in the latest edition of Sailing World college sailing top 20. Tufts University, Harvard University, St. Mary’s (Md.) College, and Georgetown University round out the top five.

On the season, HWS has shown its dominance by winning five regattas and placing in the top five in five others. This past weekend in the Admiral’s Cup, the Colleges’ powered past an 18-team field that included 14 teams ranked in the top 20. Runner-up St. Mary’s was 63 points behind Hobart and William Smith, while third place Harvard was 69 points back.

HWS captured both the 2005 Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA)/Gill North American Coed Dingy Championship and the 2005 ICSA/Layline North American Team Race Championship in Austin, Texas.
