THROGGS NECK, N.Y.—The William Smith College sailing team qualified for the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) national championships with a third place finish at the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MASIA) Women’s Dinghy Championship hosted by New York Maritime this past weekend.

The top five teams, No. 8 Navy, No. 5 Georgetown, William Smith, No. 3 St. Mary’s (Md.), and No. 15 Old Dominion, will represent MASIA at the national championship in Charleston, S.C. on May 24-26.

Sailing in the A Division, seniors Augusta Nadler (Tabor Academy/Marion, Mass.) and Molly Lawson (Noble & Greenough School/Duxbury, Mass.) placed third, finishing eight out of the 11 races in the top-five. Sophomore Kate Wilson (Prout School/Hope Valley, R.I.) and junior Kate Brush (Champlain Valley Union/Hinesburg, Vt.) also turned in a third place showing in the B Division with eight top five finishes.

The Colleges sailed in three other regattas over the weekend, winning the 14-team MAISA Open at St. Mary’s, taking seventh place out of 16 teams at the Morris Trophy hosted by Boston University, and placing 15th out of 18 at the Thompson Trophy at Connecticut College.
