Sailing wins Szambecki Team Race Regatta

NORFOLK, Va.—The Hobart and William Smith sailing team powered past seven other teams to capture the Szambecki Team Race Regatta hosted by Old Dominion University this past weekend.

In the initial pairings of the round robin format, seniors Molly Lawson (Noble & Greenough School/Duxbury, Mass.) and Augusta Nadler (Tabor Academy/Marion, Mass.), juniors Brian Clancy (Boston College/Scituate, Mass.), Amanda Markee (Torrey Pines/Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.), and Trevor Moore (Woodstock Union/Pomfret, Vt.), and sophomore Jay Mills (Hotchkiss School/Greenport, N.Y.) posted a 6-1 record to tie for first place with Georgetown.

HWS advanced to the championship round with a 5-2 mark in the second round, and closed out the regatta by sweeping Charleston, Georgetown, and St. Mary’s (Md.) in the championship round to earn top honors with a 14-3 overall record.

HWS also placed second out of four teams in the New York Maritime Team Race Challenge over the weekend.
