Two Statesmen to compete for national championship
November 1, 2006
GENEVA, N.Y.—Two Hobart College sailors will compete at Roger Williams University in the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ISCA)/Vanguard Men’s Singlehanded Championship, Nov. 3-5. Sixteen of the nation’s best sailors will compete for the Glen S. Foster Trophy.
Senior Trevor Moore (Woodstock Union/Pomfret, Vt.) and sophomore Rob Crane (Holderness School/Darien, Conn.) both qualified for the regatta after finishing in the top four at the MAISA Men’s Singlehanded Championship on Oct. 7-8. Moore concluded the weekend second overall, coming in first place six times out of 16 races, while Crane came in fourth overall after recording four second-place finishes and one win.
“It is very exciting to have two Hobart athletes qualify for the Men’s ICSA Singlehanded National Championships,” said Head Coach Scott Iklé. “The regatta will bring together the 16 best collegiate men’s singlehanded sailors from across the country. The talent will run deep, and the event will prove to be a tough test for all the sailors involved.
“Both Trevor and Rob have been working very hard in preparation for the regatta with the support of their teammates, and they are both looking forward to the regatta.”
Few Statesmen have qualified for the ICSA Championships. Most recently, John Storck ’05 placed ninth at the regatta in 2004, while Tal Ingram ’00 sailed to a third-place finish in 2000.
