GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart and William Smith Colleges’ sailing team competed in two regattas last weekend, traveling to Maryland for the Truxton Umsted Regatta at the U.S. Naval Academy, and to St. Mary’s College for its women’s intersectional. The sailors finished second of 19 teams in the Truxton Umsted with 239 points, 27 behind St. Mary’s, and tied for ninth place out of 13 at the women’s intersectional.

Racing in the A division at Navy were seniors Trevor Moore (Woodstock Union/Pomfret, Vt.) and Mandi Markee (Torrey Pines/Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.), and sophomores Kaitlyn Van Nostrand (Marine Academy/Allenwood, N.J.) and Sarah Borup (Toms River South/Pine Beach, N.J.). They combined for six top-10 finishes out of nine races to place seventh in the division.

Senior Brian Clancy (Boston College/Scituate, Mass.) and junior Hunter Farris (Trinity/Lakewood, Ohio) teamed up to take eighth in the B division with seven top-10 finishes, while sophomore Rob Crane (Holderness/Darien, Conn.) placed second in the C division. He recorded six top-three finishes. Additionally, junior Jay Mills (Hotchkiss/Greenport, N.Y.) and first-year John Moulthrop (Hotchkiss/Middlebury, Conn.) came in fourth in the D division, winning three of the nine races and finishing in the top-10 in all of them.

Representing HWS at the St. Mary’s Women’s Intersectional was senior Lauren Anderson (New Canaan/New Canaan, Conn.), junior Kate Wilson (Prout School/Hope Valley, R.I.), senior Kate Brush (Champlain Valley Union/Hinesburg, Vt.), and first-year Meghan Jordan (Clarence/East Amherst, N.Y.). Anderson and Wilson sailed to a ninth-place finish in the A division, placing in the top-seven six times out of 13 races, while Brush and Jordan teamed up for a 10th-place spot in the B division.

The sailors will be in action again on March 24-25 when they compete in the Aaron Szambecki Team Race at Old Dominion, the Owen Trophy at Navy, and the Team Race Challenge hosted by N.Y. Maritime.
