NORFOLK, Va.—The William Smith College sailing team finished 14th in the 18-team Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Women's Championships hosted by Old Dominion University. The championship, which wrapped up on Friday afternoon, is the first of three spring championships the Colleges will compete in this month.
The Herons were 17th in the A Division, while the B Division tandem of senior Lauren Anderson (New Canaan/New Canaan, Conn.) and first-year Maria Trainor (Dover-Sherborn/Sherborn, Mass.) placed 12th. Anderson-Trainor made a strong move in the final six races of the 16-race series. They placed in the top seven in five of the six races, including a second and a third to close out the regatta.
St. Mary's (Md.) was the overall winner followed by the College of Charleston and Stanford.
HWS returns to the water on May 27 in Annapolis, Md., when the ICSA Team Race Championships begin in the waters of the Chesapeake Bay. The 2006-07 sailing season concludes with the ICSA Coed Dinghy Championships which begin on May 30 also in Annapolis.
