HWS sailing 3rd at Thompson Trophy

NEW LONDON, Conn.—The Hobart and William Smith sailing team finished third of 18 teams at the Thompson Trophy regatta this past weekend. Harvard University and Dartmouth took the top two spots, while HWS, Brown, and USMMA rounded out the top five.

Racing in two divisions, the group of four collected 274 points, edging Brown out by just 11. Competing in the A division for HWS were sophomore John Storck (St. Anthony’s/Huntington, N.Y.) and first-year Molly Lawson (Noble & Greenough School/Duxbury, Mass.). The pair garnered eight top-five finishes, including three victories, scoring 147 points for seventh place of 18 boats.

Sophomore Eric Oppen (Orono/Wayzata, Minn.) and senior Jennie Rosthal (Stratford/Houston, Texas) earned a fourth place finish in the B division with 127 points, just two away from the third spot. They also collected seven top-five finishes in 18 races, including two wins.
