HWS 6th at America Trophy

April 28, 2002

THROGGS NECK, N.Y.--The Hobart and William Smith sailing team finished sixth at the America Trophy hosted by New York Maritime. On the first day of competition the teams sailed 10 races in 8-12 knot breezes from the south. On the second day four races were sailed in the morning in a light northerly breeze. Lack of wind win limited the competion to just one race in each division in the afternoon. Senior Sam Rogers and sophomore Alexis Rubin finished sixth in the A Division with a score to 95. In the B Division, junior Amanda Callahan and sophomore Ed Norton also finished sixth with 90 points. The sailing team finished just two spots shy of qualifying to for the National Championships.
