DETROIT, Mich.—The Hobart and William Smith Colleges sailing team finished seventh in the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) North American Dinghy Championship on Tuesday. HWS improved three places on the final day of racing, after sitting in 10th place following the first two days of the regatta.

Eighteen teams competed in two divisions sailing 18 races in each division over three days at the Bayview Yacht Club. The Colleges finished fourth in the B division with 114 points and ninth in the A Division with 165 points. Harvard University won the regatta with 165 points followed by the University of Hawaii and St. Mary’s College of Maryland.

Junior Ed Norton (Tabor Academy/Fair Haven, N.J.) skippered the HWS dinghy in the B Division throughout the event. First-year Augusta Nadler (Tabor Academy/Marion, Mass.) was his crew for 12 races, while senior John Cline (St. Georges School/Stuart, Fla.) was the crew in the other six races. The trio posted 13 top-10 finishes, including a pair of victories and four second place showings.

Senior Sam Rogers (Breck School/Excelsior, Minn.) and junior John Pearce (Ithaca/Ithaca, N.Y.) skippered HWS in the A division, while senior Amanda Callahan (Notre Dame Academy/Canton, Mass.) and juniors Alexis Rubin (Edmund Burke/Potomac, Md.) and Oscar Barney (Marshfield/Coos Bay, Ore.) shared the crew responsibilities. HWS posted nine top-10 finishes in the A Division.

Earlier this month the Colleges finished fourth in the ICSA North American Team Race Championship and 10th in the ICSA North American Women’s Championship.
