Sailors finish fifth in Schell Regatta

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-The Hobart and William Smith sailing team finished fifth of 18 teams in the 63rd Annual Erwin Schell Trophy Regatta. Four HWS sailors competed in 18 races in two divisions to combine for a score of 283, finishing just four points behind MIT.

In the A Division, junior John Storck (St.Anthony’s/Huntington, N.Y.) and sophomore Molly Lawson (Noble and Greenough School/Duxbury Mass.) placed fourth with a score of 132 outracing Boston College by 11. The pair recorded seven top five finishes, including wins in the first and eighth races.

The duo of junior Lee Sackett (Gilmour Academy/Mentor, Ohio) and senior Oscar Barney (Marshfield/Coos Bay, Ore.) competed in the B Division earning eighth out of a field of 18 with 151 points. The two placed among the top five teams five times and sailed to a win in the 11th race.
