HWS first-year sailors compete in MAISA Freshman Championships

GENEVA, N.Y.—The first-years for the Hobart and William Smith sailing team competed in the Mid-Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association Freshman Championship this past weekend at Georgetown University. HWS took sixth place out of 11 teams with a score of 130 points. Georgetown grabbed the top spot, scoring a low 51 points.

Combining the scores from the boats in the A and B divisions, HWS only missed fifth place by one point. Jake Dewey (Hanover/Hyannis Port, Mass.) and Justin Bauer (Portsmouth Abbey/Burlington, Conn.) notched top-10 finishes in each of their 11 races, coming in sixth in the A division.

Racing in the B division, Tyler Sandberg (Brewster Academy/Riverside, Conn.) and Michelle Grocke (Hawken/Novelty, Ohio) garnered six top-five places in 11 races for a fifth place finish.
