Sailing team ranked first in national poll

October 11, 2002

GENEVA, N.Y.--The Hobart and William Smith coed sailing team earned the top spot in the latest Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) coaches poll. HWS moved up six spots from its previous ranking.

The team has enjoyed considerable success this fall, winning three of the nine regattas its entered including the Mid-Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MAISA) Sloop Championships. That victory, the first for HWS in that event, earned the team a berth in the ICSA Sloop National Championships, hosted by Brown University, Nov. 1-3.

The sailing team will host the HWS Fall Intersectional this weekend. Sixteen teams from nine states and Canada, including No. 2 Kings Point, No. 5 Dartmouth, No. 6 St. Mary's, and No. 9 Boston College, will compete on Seneca Lake, Oct. 12-13.
