Herons compete at Navy Fall Intersectional October 12, 2003 ANNAPOLIS, Md.The William Smith College sailing team competed in the Navy Fall Womens Intersectional this past weekend. The Herons finished in 10th place of 16 teams in the combined division and 11th of 16 in the dinghy regatta. Dartmouth took the top spot in the combined division, while Navy was the best in the dinghy regatta. William Smith scored 375 points in the combined division, the compilation of the A, B, and C divisions, and notched 266 points in the dinghy regatta that counted just the A and B scores. Racing for the Herons in the A division were senior Mora OMalley (Totino Grace/Delwood, Minn.), junior Kate May (Cranston East/Cranston, R.I.), and first-year Kate Brush (Champlain Valley Union/Hinesburg, Vt.). The trio of sailors combined for four top-five finishes for 135 points, missing the 10th spot by just two points. In the B division, junior Kate Kana (Gunston School/Easton, Md.) and first-year Amanda Markee (Torrey Pines/Santa Fe, Calif.) sailed to 11 top-10 finishes, including third-place in the 10th race. Their 131 points earned them 10th place. Participating the C division was junior Emily Barkow (University Lake School/Nashotah, Wis.). Scoring 109 points with five top-five finishes, including a victory in the 11th race, Barkow finished eighth out of 12 in the Laser Radial division.
