Herons fifth at St. Mary's Intersectional

March 16, 2003

ST MARY’S CITY, Md.—The William Smith College sailing team garnered fifth place of 17 teams at the St. Mary’s Women’s Intersectional this past weekend. The Herons scored 125 points, missing the fourth spot by only two points. University of Hawaii raced its way to first place with 104 points for the weekend.

Racing in the A division for the Herons was senior Sonya Smith (Falmouth/Falmouth, Mass.) and sophomore Kate Kana (Gunston School/Easton, Md.). The pair scored 85 points in ten races for fifth place.

Junior Mora O’Malley (Totino Grace/Dellwood, Minn.) and senior Amanda Callahan (Notre Dame Academy/Canton, Mass.) won the B division by winning four of the races and finishing in the top-10 in all of them. Their 40 points was four better than the pair from St. Mary’s.
