April 27, 2004

NORFOLK, Va.—The William Smith College sailing team earned a fourth-place finish in the Mid Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association Dinghy Championship at Old Dominion University this past weekend with 78 points. The host Monarchs earned the top spot, while Georgetown and Navy rounded out the top three, respectively. The top four teams advance to the Intercollegiate Sailing Association North American Dinghy Championship on May 26-28.

Teaming up in the A division were senior Mora O’Malley (Totino Grace/Dellwood, Minn.) and first-years Amanda Markee (Torrey Pines/Santa Fe, Calif.) and Kate Brush (Champlain Valley Union/Hinesburg, Vt.). The trio combined for four top-three finishes in ten races, and never came in lower than sixth, earning third place with 42 points.

Senior Alexis Rubin (Edmund Burke/Potomac, Md.), junior Emlie Barkow (University Lake School/Nashotah, Wis.), and sophomore Augusta Nadler (Tabor Academy/Marion, Mass.) grabbed fourth in the B fleet with five top-three finishes, including two victories, for 36 points.

The Herons will travel to Cascade Locks, Ore., to compete for the Gerald C. Miller Trophy in the ICSA Dinghy Championships on May 26-28.
