Herons sail to second at MAISA Championship

ANNAPOLIS, Md.—The William Smith College sailing team qualified for MAISA nationals this past weekend with a second place finish at the MAISA Women’s Championship regatta. Scoring 99 points on the weekend, the Herons edged out Old Dominion for the runner-up spot behind St. Mary’s with a low score of 75.

Sailing in the A division for William Smith were senior Sonya Smith (Falmouth/Falmouth, Mass.) and first-year Augusta Nadler (Tabor Academy/Marion, Mass.). The pair garnered eight top-three finishes, including two victories, for fourth place with 56 points.

Senior Amanda Callahan (Notre Dame Academy/Canton, N.Y.) and junior Alexis Rubin (Edmund Burke/Potomac, Md.) earned second place with 43 points. The duo won six times in 16 races and never finished below fifth place.

The HWS sailing team returns to action on April 26-27, at the America Trophy, hosted by St. Mary’s.
