Hobart captures MAISA Sloop Championship again

October 26, 2003

Throggs Neck, N.Y.—For the second consecutive year, the Hobart College sailing team took first place at the Mid-Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MAISA) Sloop Championship. The win qualifies Hobart to compete at the Intercollegiate Sailing Association North American Sloop Championship at N.Y. Maritime College on November 7-9.

The team of junior John Storck (St. Anthony’s/Huntington, N.Y.), senior Jeff Sullivan (McQuaid/Rochester, N.Y.), and sophomore Zach Goldman (Lutheran/Huntington, N.Y.) finished with a low score of 16 to edge out King’s Point by a single point. Hobart finished within the top three in all seven races, capped by a win in the sixth race.

Hobart will make its fifth appearance in the ICSA North American Sloop Championship (1997, 2000, 2001, 2002). The Statesmen raced to a tie with first-place finisher College of Charleston a year ago, losing in a tie break to earn the runner-up spot.
