KINGS POINT, N.Y.—Each of Hobart College’s five sailors raced his way to a spot in the top-ten of the Mid-Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association Singlehanded Championship hosted by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy this past weekend. No other team had more than three sailors qualify for the competition. Junior John Storck (St. Anthony’s/Huntington, N.Y.) led the way for the Statesmen with a fourth place finish.

David Wright (Oakville, Ontario) and Peeter Must (Toms River, N.J.) from Kings Point grabbed the top two spots, scoring 29 and 52 points, respectively, while St. Mary’s Alex Steele totaled 76 points to earn the third and final qualifying spot for the Intercollegiate Sailing Association North American Championship on Nov.21-23.

Senior John Pearce (Ithaca/Ithaca, N.Y.) was next in line for Hobart in sixth place, while junior Wiley Wakeman (Groton School/Cohasset, Mass.) and first-years Ben Wicks (Sa Hus/Southampton, Bermuda) and Trevor Moore (Woodstock Union/Pomfret, Vt.) took seventh, eighth, and 10th, respectively.

Storck cracked the top three in six of the 16 races, including runner-up finishes in the seventh and 16th races, to score 78 points for the weekend.
