March 29, 2004

NORFOLK, Va.—Seven members of the Hobart and William Smith sailing team joined forces this past weekend to capture the Aaron Szambecki Team Race title hosted by Old Dominion University. St. Mary’s and Old Dominion grabbed the next two spots, respectively.

Seniors Ed Norton (Tabor Academy/Fair Haven, N.J.), John Pearce (Ithaca/Ithaca, N.Y.), and Alexis Rubin (Edmund Burke/Potomac, Md.), junior John Storck (St. Anthony’s/Huntington, N.Y.), and sophomores Zach Goldman (Lutheran/Huntington, N.Y.), Molly Lawson (Noble & Greenough School/Duxbury, Mass.), and Augusta Nadler (Tabor Academy/Marion, Mass.) combined to post an 11-1 record to lead HWS to its first victory of the spring season. St. Mary’s and Old Dominion rounded out the top three with matching 8-4 records on the day.

Ranked 10th in the latest poll, HWS will compete in the Boston Dinghy Cup and the North Spring #1 regattas next weekend.
