HWS third at MAISA North Spring #1

BOSTON, Mass.—The Hobart and William Smith sailing team competed in the Boston Dinghy Cup this past weekend hosted by Harvard University, finishing 13th of 14 teams. Harvard captured the top spot, while Tufts earned runner-up honors.

Racing for HWS in the A division were junior Lee Sackett (Gilmour Academy/Mentor, Ohio) and first-year Kate Brush (Champlain Valley Union/Hinesburg, Vt.). The pair captured five top-10 finishes, including a runner-up spot in the ninth race, to earn ninth place with 87 points.

First-years Brian Clancy (Boston College/Scituate, Mass.) and Kirby Williams (Marblehead/Marblehead, Mass.) grabbed four top-10 finishes and two runner-up finishes in the B fleet. Their 104 points after the 10 races landed the pair in 13th place in the division.

The C division of racing featured first-years Trevor Moore (Woodstock Union/Pomfret, Vt.) and Amanda Markee (Torrey Pines/Santa Fe, Calif.). The duo won the seventh race and captured runner-up honors in the ninth race to finish the weekend of racing with 80 points for 10th place in the 14-team field.

Rounding out the weekend of sailing for HWS in the D division were sophomores Zach Goldman (Lutheran/Huntington, N.Y.) and Justin Bauer (Portsmouth Abbey/Burlington, Conn.). Goldman and Bauer finished in the top-10 just twice, racking up 115 points for the 13th spot.
