HWS sailing captures Admiral Moore title

March 9, 2003

THROGGS NECK, N.Y.—The Hobart and William Smith sailing team raced its way to a first place finish at the Admiral Moore regatta this past weekend hosted by New York Maritime College. HWS racked up just 94 points, with Old Dominion coming in second with 127.

Winning the A Division were junior Oscar Barney (Marshfield/Coos Bay, Ore.) and sophomore Eric Oppen (Orono/Wayzata, Minn.) with 55 points. The two combined for six top-five finishes, winning two of those races. Their next closest opponent was the pair from MIT with 57 points.

Senior John Stork (St. Anthony’s/Huntington, N.Y.) and junior Mora O’Malley (Totino Grace/Dellwood, Minn.) took second in the B Division with 94 points in 10 races, just two points behind top finisher Old Dominion.
