HWS sailing takes 2nd at Owen Trophy regatta

KINGS POINT, N.Y.—The Hobart and William Smith sailing team raced its way to a second place finish behind host USMMA-Kings Point this past weekend at the Owen Trophy regatta. The Mariners edged HWS by 20 points, with 121 points to the Colleges’ 141.

Racing their way to 10 top-five finishes in 16 races in the A division were sophomore Eric Oppen (Orono/Wayzata, Minn.) and senior Courtney Wilkins (Hamilton-Wenham/Needham, Mass.). Their 79 points placed them third behind Kings Point and Harvard.

Competing in the B division were sophomore John Stork (St. Anthony’s/Huntington, N.Y.) and first-year Molly Lawson (Noble & Greenough School/Duxbury, Mass.). The pair combined for eight top-three finishes in 16 races beating out Kings Point by seven points for the top sport in the division.
