HWS sailing teams receive top-10 preseason rankings

August 19, 2002

GENEVA, N.Y.–The Hobart and William Smith Colleges’ sailing teams both received top ten preseason rankings for the 2002-03 season determined by Sailing World’s coaches panel. The coed team begins the year seventh, while the women’s team is ranked eighth.

Previously ranked 20th and 12th respectively, Head Coach Scott Iklé now finds his teams ranked ahead of the likes of Yale, Georgetown, and Navy in the coed group and Georgetown, Harvard, and Dartmouth for the women.

These rankings are the result of a solid year of competition in 2001-02, during which HWS placed first in five events, including William Smith’s victory at the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MAISA) Women’s Championships. That final victory took the women to the National Championships where they finished 12th out of 18 teams.

HWS opens its fall schedule at the Kings Point Laser Opener on Sept. 7-8.
