HWS sailing victorious at Hoyt Trophy

Providence, R.I.—Five Hobart and William Smith sailors combined to take the Hoyt Trophy with a low score of 149 in a field of 18 this past weekend. The closest competition of the weekend came from second place finisher Boston College, who trailed by 48 points. St. Mary’s and host Brown University rounded out the top four, respectively.

In the A division, senior Ed Norton (Tabor Academy/Fair Haven, N.J.) and sophomores Augusta Nadler (Tabor Academy/Marion, Mass.) and Justin Bauer (Portsmouth Abbey/Burlington, Conn.) placed second, finishing just four points behind King’s Point with a score of 78. The trio recorded seven top five finishes, including three wins, in 12 races.

Seniors John Pearce (Ithaca/Ithaca, N.Y.) and Alexis Rubin (Edmund Burke/Potomac, Md.) garnered the top spot in B division, outracing Dartmouth by twenty points with a score of 71. The pair placed in the top five seven times with two first place finishes.
