November 2, 2003

GENEVA, N.Y.—Sailing out of the Bozzuto Boathouse for the first time, the Hobart and William Smith sailing team won the War Memorial Regatta on Seneca Lake by five points over defending champion St. Mary’s College of Maryland. The top six teams earn a spot in the Atlantic Coast Championships, Nov. 15-16.

Senior Ed Norton (Tabor Academy/Fair Haven, N.J.) and sophomore Augusta Nadler (Tabor Academy/Marion, Mass.) dominated the A division, winning four of the weekend’s nine races, while finishing in the top four in all but one race. The HWS sailors finished 17 points better than the second place team from St. Mary’s (25-42).

In the B Division, seniors Alexis Rubin (Edmund Burke/Potomac, Md.) and John Pearce (Ithaca/Ithaca, N.Y.) placed second to the boat from St. Mary’s by just 12 points (25-37). The HWS duo won twice and finished in the top five six times.
