HWS sailors sixth at Boston Dinghy Cup

BOSTON, Mass.—Racing in frigid temperatures and rain, the HWS sailing team took sixth place of 16 teams at the Boston Dinghy Cup hosted by Harvard University this past weekend. Competing in four divisions the team combined for 500 points, edging Dartmouth out by just seven. Harvard garnered the top spot with just 297 points for the weekend of racing.

Junior John Pearce (Ithaca/Ithaca, N.Y.) and senior Amanda Callahan (Notre Dame Academy/Canton, Mass.) teamed up to finish in ninth place with 135 points in the A division, just four points out of eighth. The pair finished in the top-five four times, including one first-place and two second-place finishes.

Grabbing fourth place in the B division with 92 points were senior Sam Rogers (Breck School/Excelsior, Minn.) and first-year Augusta Nadler (Tabor Academy/Marion, Mass.). They sailed their way to two top finishes and eight top-five finishes.

Competing in the C division for the Colleges were junior Ed Norton (Tabor Academy/Fair Haven, N.J.) and Oscar Barney (Marshfield/Coos Bay, Ore.). They finished in the top-five just three times, scoring 154 points for 12th place.

Rounding out the HWS team was sophomore John Storck (St. Anthony’s/Huntington, N.Y.) and first-year Molly Lawson (Noble & Greenough School/Duxbury, Mass.) in the D division. The duo combined for 119 points claiming four top-five finishes for the sixth spot overall.
