HWS third at MAISA North Spring #1

April 5, 2004

THROGS NECK, N.Y.—A few days after moving up five spots to No. 3 in the rankings, the Hobart and William Smith sailing team captured third place of 18 teams with 35 points at the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association North Spring #1 regatta at New York Maritime. Queen’s grabbed top honors, while Columbia picked up the runner-up spot.

Racing in the A division for HWS were senior Mora O’Malley (Totino Grace/Dellwood, Minn.) and first-year Lauren Anderson (New Canaan/New Canaan, N.J.). The duo finished among the top-10 boats in each of the four races, including a victory in the third and a runner-up finish in the opening race, compiling 19 points for third place.

In the B division junior Emily Barkow (University Lake School/Nashotah, Wis.) and first-year Nate Owen (Upper Arlington/Columbus, Ohio) turned in three top-three performances, including a victory in the second race, finishing the weekend with 16 points for third place as well.

HWS will compete in a pair of regattas on April 10-11, traveling to St. Mary’s for the MAISA Team Race Championship and to Yale University for the Ted Ferrarone Team Race.
