HWS wins MAISA Open April 20, 2003 GENEVA, N.Y.--There's no place like home. That old adage certainly held true for the Hobart and William Smith Colleges sailing team this weekend, as HWS captured the six-team MAISA Open on Seneca Lake, just off the coast of campus. The host-standing sailors posted a regatta-low score of 68, 36 points better than second place finisher, St. Mary's (Md.) College. Sophomore Lee Sackett (Gilmour Academy/Mentor, Ohio) and first-year Rob Aspinwall (Tabor Academy/Darien, Conn.) led the way with an impressive first place finish in the A division. Sackett and Aspinwall won half of the weekend's 12 races and took runner-up honors in four other races. The duo recorded a score of 24 to pace the top pack of sailors. In the B division, sophomore Emily Barkow (University Lake School/Nashotah, Wis.) and first-year Justin Bauer (Portsmouth Abbey/Burlington, Conn.) tied for first with Navy, posting a score of 44. The midshipmen won the division based on the tie-breaker, the results of the final race which Navy won. |
