HWS wins Ted Ferrarone Team Race

April 12, 2004

NEW HAVEN, Conn.—The Hobart and William Smith sailing team captured its third victory of the spring season this past weekend at the Ted Ferrarone Team Race hosted by Yale University. HWS finished the two days of racing with a 9-1 record in round robin racing, beating second place Dartmouth and third place Coast Guard.

Racing in light winds, HWS’s three boats turned in near perfect performances losing just one of the 10 races. Junior Lee Sackett (Gilmour Academy/Mentor, Ohio), seniors Oscar Barney (Marshfield/Coos Bay, Ore.) and Jeff Sullivan (McQuaid/Rochester, N.Y.), and first-years Nate Owen (Upper Arlington/Columbus, Ohio), Trevor Moore (Woodstock Union/Pomfret, Vt.), and Amanda Markee (Torrey Pines/Santa Fe, Calif.) all competed in the round robin event for the Colleges.

Hobart and William Smith are ranked third in the latest poll and will compete in four regatta’s next weekend April 17-18.
