HWS sailors race to second at MAISA War Memorial November 4, 2002 GENEVA, N.Y.The Hobart and William Smith sailing team continued its excellent fall season this past weekend by taking second place at the Mid-Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association War Memorial regatta. St. Marys College finished in the top spot, followed by HWS, Georgetown, Washington College, and Kings Point, claiming the top five, respectively. With a second place finish, the sailors will head to the Atlantic Coast Dinghy Championships at Coast Guard. Separated into A and B divisions, the HWS boats finished first five times and in the top five 13 times in 22 races. Competing in the A division were junior Ed Norton (Tabor Academy/Fair Haven, N.J.), first-year Augusta Nadler (Tabor Academy/Marion, Mass.), and senior John Cline (St. Georges School/Stuart, Fla.). Racing their way to two first place finishes and five top-five performances in 11 races, the trio grabbed fifth place with 73 points, missing third by just two points. In the B division juniors John Pearce (Ithaca/Ithaca, N.Y.) and Alexis Rubin (Edmund Burke/Potomac, Md.), and sophomore Matt Herbster (Brewster Academy/Manchester, Mass.) garnered the second overall spot, finishing in the top two positions seven out of 11 races. |
