Sailing team victorious at Cornell Fall Open

ITHACA, N.Y.—The Hobart and William Smith Colleges sailing team raced its way to its fourth victory of the season with a win at the Cornell Fall Open held this past weekend. Four HWS sailors combined for a low score of 48 in the 10-team competition, with Fordham and Kings Point garnering the second and third spots, respectively.

Junior Emily Barkow (University Lake School/Nashotah, Wis.) and sophomore Molly Lawson (Noble & Greenough School/Duxbury, Mass.) combined for second place in the A Division with 36 points, six points behind Fordham. Winning the first three races, the pair finished in the top-three in six of the 10 races on the weekend.

Dominating the B Division for HWS were first-year Brian Clancy (Boston College/Scituate, Mass.) and sophomore Aysegül Guru (Santa Fe/Bodrum Muqlu, Turkey). Their eight victories and two runner-up finishes in the 10 races earned them a low score of 12 points, outracing Fordham by 25.
