Sailors take 6th at President's Trophy

April 12, 2004

BOSTON—Four Hobart and William Smith sailors teamed up to take sixth place of 15 teams at the President’s Trophy hosted by Boston University. Dartmouth grabbed top honors, while Harvard and St. Mary’s rounded out the top three, respectively. HWS finished the two-day event with 205 points, just four shy of fifth place.

Racing in the A division for the Colleges were senior Mora O’Malley (Totino Grace/Dellwood, Minn.) and first-year Kate Brush (Champlain Valley Union/Hinesburg, Vt.). The duo captured seven top-five finishes in 14 races, including three victories, for fifth place in the division with 90 points. The group from the University of Connecticut just nipped them by two points for fourth place.

Junior Emlie Barkow (University Lake School/Nashotah, Wis.), and first-year Kirby Williams (Marblehead/Marblehead, Mass.) competed in the B fleet for HWS, compiling 115 points for seventh place. Barkow and Williams combined for three top-five finishes, including the runner-up spot in the seventh race.

Ranked third in the latest poll, HWS is preparing for four regattas next weekend, April 17-18.
