Simpson Qualifies at Laser Opener

September 2, 2001

GREAT NECK, N.Y.-- The Hobart sailing team sent three sailors to the King's Point Laser Open on Sept. 1-2; sophomore John Pearce, sophomore Matt Simpson, and junior Bobby Storck.

On the first day of competition, 10 races were sailed on modified olympic and modified windward-leeward courses. The winds blew from the northwest at 8-12 knots, providing the sailors with a solid breeze.

On Sunday, another eight races were completed. The light, 2-8 knot breeze out of the west-northwest provided more adverse conditions.

The top four finishers qualified for the MAISA Men's Singlehanded Championship, which will be held at Queen's University on Oct. 6-7.
