HWS finishes third at Freshman Championships

ST. MARY’S CITY, Md.—Four first-year Hobart and William Smith sailors finished third in the Mid-Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MAISA) Freshman Championship this past weekend hosted by St. Mary’s. HWS combined for a score of 114, behind St. Mary’s and Georgetown.

In the A division, Brian Clancy (Boston College/Scituate, Mass.) and Kate Brush (Champlain Valley Union/Hinesburg, Vt.) finished seventh with a score of 89 in 12 races. The pair recorded four top five finishes including a win in the ninth race.

Winning the B division with a score of 25 were Trevor Moore (Woodstock Union/Pomfret, Vt.) and Mandi Markee (Torrey Pines/Santa Fe, Calif.), edging out St. Mary’s by a single point. The pair dominated the rest of the competition, beating the Seahawk freshman, who finished in third place by 27 points. The two rookies finished in the top five in every race and recorded four wins and six second place finishes.
