HWS sailors finish third at Hoyt Trophy

October 29, 2002

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart and William Smith sailing team prevailed to a third place finish of 18 teams at the Hoyt Trophy regatta despite the wet and cold conditions. Racing in A and B divisions, HWS scored 215 points on the weekend, coming in behind Brown and Boston College, respectively.

Garnering fifth place in the A division for HWS were senior Sam Rogers (Breck School/Excelsior, Minn.) and junior Alexis Rubin (Edmund Burke/Potomac, Md.) with 112 points. Placing in the top-10 in 11 of their 15 races, Rogers and Rubin missed taking the top spot away from Yale by just 4 points. In the B division first-years Augusta Nadler (Tabor Academy/Marion, Mass.) and Will Cox (The Williams School/Mystic, Conn.) shared duties with junior Ed Norton (Tabor Academy/Fair Haven, N.J.) on their way to fifth place in the division with 103 points. Norton and Nadler raced together in 13 of the 15 competitions, garnering top-five finishes five times. Norton and Cox joined forces twice, taking third and 10th.
