HWS third at Navy Fall Intersectional

ANNAPOLIS, Md.—A group of six sailors from Hobart and William Smith Colleges combined to score 575 points for third place of 20 teams at the Navy Fall Intersectional Regatta this past weekend, hosted by the Naval Academy. Harvard outraced everyone scoring a regatta-low 448 points, while Tufts took the runner-up spot with a score of 526.

Racing to sixth in the A Division with 159 points were senior Ed Norton (Tabor Academy/Fair Haven, N.J.) and sophomore Augusta Nadler (Tabor Academy/Marion, Mass.). Garnering a top-three finish in seven of the 20 races, including four victories, the pair edged out Old Dominion by four points.

Junior Lee Sackett (Gilmour Academy/Mentor, Ohio) and senior Oscar Barney (Marshfield/Coos Bay, Ore.) earned a top-five finish in five races taking 12th with 183 points in the B Division.

Rounding out the HWS group in the C and D divisions were junior John Storck (St. Anthony’s/Huntington, N.Y.) and senior John Pearce (Ithaca/Ithaca, N.Y.), respectively.
Storck had four finishes in the top-three, including a win in the fourth race, to earn sixth place in the division, while Pearce fought his way to 10 top-three finishes for the third spot in the D Division.

HWS is ranked sixth in the most recent Sailing World college rankings. Dartmouth and Harvard sit in the top two spots, respectively.
