HWS third at Truxton Umsted

March 22, 2004

ANNAPOLIS, Md.—The Hobart and William Smith sailing team finished third of 20 teams at the Truxton Umsted Regatta hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy this past weekend. HWS scored 274 points to edge out Tufts by two points for third place. St. Mary’s College grabbed finished the weekend at the top, while Georgetown earned runner-up honors.

Seniors Ed Norton (Tabor Academy/Fair Haven, N.J.), Jeff Sullivan (McQuaid/Rochester, N.Y.), and sophomores Augusta Nadler (Tabor Academy/Marion, Mass.) and Justin Bauer (Portsmouth Abbey/Burlington, Conn.) teamed up in the A division racing. The group combined for five top-10 finishes in 10 races, scoring 102 points for 12th place.

In the B division, seniors John Pearce (Ithaca/Ithaca, N.Y.) and Alexis Rubin (Edmund Burke/Potomac, Md.) and sophomore Zach Goldman (Lutheran/Huntington, N.Y.) finished among the top five in eight of the 10 races, totaling 44 points for second place, just one point behind top team Brown.

Junior John Storck (St. Anthony’s/Huntington, N.Y.) and first-year Trevor Moore (Woodstock Union/Pomfret, Vt.) competed for HWS in the C and D divisions, respectively. Storck earned eight top-10 finishes for seventh place with 81 points, while Moore was among the top four five times, including one victory, for second place in the division.
