SAAC and hockey team up to sponsor food drive
November 2, 2006
GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) will sponsor a food drive at the Hobart hockey game this Saturday, Nov. 4. The sixth-ranked Statesmen will take on ECAC West rival and fifth-ranked Manhattanville College at 4 p.m. at the Geneva Recreation Complex.
Admission to the game is free with two or more non-perishable food items. All food items collected will be donated to the Geneva Food Pantry. General admission without a food contribution will be $5. HWS faculty, staff, and students, normally admitted free with an HWS ID, will be charged $5 without a food donation. All cash proceeds will go to Happiness House at the Finger Lakes United Cerebral Palsy Association in Geneva, a school for children with special needs.
Founded in 1979, the SAAC is comprised of one student-athlete from each of the 11 Hobart varsity teams, and one student trainer. Council members are selected by the head coaches and the director of athletics. The SAAC serves student-athletes as leaders of Hobart College Athletics with the objectives of strengthening the value of athletics as an integral part of each student-athlete’s educational experience, and takes a leadership role to engage Hobart’s intercollegiate teams in meaningful community service.
