2 Herons grab Liberty League weekly honors

GENEVA, N.Y.—Two William Smith basketball players were honored by the Liberty League this afternoon. Junior Pria Young (Council Rock/Richboro, Pa.) was named the conference’s Guard of the Week, while first-year forward Stephanie Czajkowski (Bishop Ludden/Syracuse, N.Y.) was named the Rookie of the Week.
Young averaged a team-high 14.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 3.5 spg, and 2.0 apg in a 2-0 Liberty League weekend for the Herons. In a 56-54 win at St. Lawrence, she nearly single-handedly lifted the Herons to victory. With William Smith trailing by four, 54-50, with 1:35 remaining, Young canned three-pointers at 1:24 and 0:35 to secure the victory. She recorded a game-high 17 points, including 3-of-7 from long range, and made four steals, just one less than the entire St. Lawrence team. The following afternoon at Clarkson, she scored 12 points, including three more three-pointers, in a 68-45 win.
For the weekend, Young shot 45.5 percent from the floor, including 50 percent from beyond the arc. Overall, she is averaging 9.5 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 2.4 apg and leads the team (6th in the conference) in steals (3.2/gm).
Czajkowski averaged 12.0 ppg and 6.0 rpg over the weekend. At St. Lawrence, she scored 10 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. The following afternoon, Czajkowski scored a game-high 14 points on 7-of-12 shooting to lead the Herons to a 68-45 win over the Golden Knights.
A starter in all 10 games this season, Czajkowski leads the Herons in scoring (11.6), rebounding (6.5), and field goal percentage (.510). This marks the second straight week she has earned the Liberty League Rookie of the Week Award.
William Smith (6-4) is back in action at 6 p.m., on Jan. 18, when Elmira College visits Bristol Gym in a non-conference matchup.senior seasons.
