GENEVA, N.Y.—Three William Smith College basketball players were recently selected to the Liberty League Women’s Basketball All-Academic team. Tara Brisson (Bishop Grimes/Liverpool, N.Y.), Tanya Richvalsky (Mohawk/Mohawk, N.Y.), and Pria Young (Council Rock/Richboro, Pa.) were honored for their academic and athletic excellence.

A starter in 11 of the 16 games in which she has played, Brisson is currently second on the team with 41 assists, third in rebounds, contributing 5.1 per game, and fourth in scoring, averaging 6.2 ppg. The senior guard scored a season-high 12 points in a 79-72 win against Elmira College on Jan. 18.

Richvalsky, a junior forward, has played in all 16 games, starting eight. Richvalsky is second on the team in field goal percentage (.475) and fourth in rebounds, pulling down 4.6 per game. She’s scored a season-high 12 points twice, most recently against Rensselaer on Jan. 29.

Young has started all 16 games for the Herons this season. The junior guard leads the team with 47 steals and is third in scoring, tossing in 8.7 points per game. Against Elmira, Young matched her season-high of 17 points and collected a season-best six rebounds.

Student-athletes from the Liberty League were selected to the team based on the following criteria: sophomore academic standing, at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, and on the team roster for the academic year.

William Smith has posted a 5-2 record against Liberty League opponents and a 10-6 mark overall. The Herons will look to improve on that mark when they travel to Union on Feb. 4. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
