GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith senior Tara Brisson (Bishop Grimes/Liverpool, N.Y.) and first-year guard Marisa Vespa (Immaculate Heart/Watertown, N.Y.) were among the student-athletes to receive weekly honors from the Liberty League this afternoon. Brisson was named Women’s Basketball Co-Guard of the Week, while Vespa was named the Co-Rookie of the Week.

Brisson averaged 10.0 ppg, 8.0 rpg, and 2.5 apg and Vespa added 11.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 5.0 apg, and 4.0 spg in a 2-0 Liberty League weekend for William Smith.

During Friday’s 57-41 win at Union, Brisson scored a game-high 14 points and pulled down a team-high eight boards, while handing out four assists. The following afternoon in a 67-50 victory at Skidmore, she chipped in six points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

Through 18 games, Brisson leads the team in free throw percentage (.780), is second in assists (2.56 apg) and rebounds (5.4 rpg), and fourth in scoring (6.6 ppg). She ranks 10th in the conference in assists.

At Union, Vespa recorded 13 points—mostly from the free throw line (11-of-12) —six rebounds, five steals, and three assists. At Skidmore, she contributed nine points, seven assists, six rebounds, and three steals.

To date, Vespa leads the Herons in scoring (11.6 ppg), assists (5.17 apg), and three-point field goal percentage (.364) and is second in steals (2.72 spg). She ranks among the top-10 in the league in assists (1st), assist-to-turnover ratio (1st, 1.63), scoring (4th), free throw percentage (6th, .718), and steals (7th).

With five games remaining in the regular season, William Smith boasts a 12-6 record, including a 7-2 mark in the Liberty League. The Herons, who sit one half game out of first place, are back in action at 6 p.m., on Feb. 11, when they host the Clarkson University Golden Knights in Bristol Gym.
